Creek settlers okay relocation

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Some 135 families affected by Package B of the ongoing Sagip Ilog project here have agreed to the relocation and compensation proposals of the City Government.
Package B of Salip Ilog runs from Sitio Tinajero in Barangay Del Pilar and ends at Barangay Pandaras, cutting across Barangay San Felipe where a by-pass bridge needs to be constructed.
Package A, meanwhile, is the 5.2 kilometer stretch from Barangay Sta. Lucia to San Jose, 98 percent of which has been completed save for finishing touches.
The inauguration of Salip Ilog Package A was supposedly scheduled on May 12 this year, but had to be postponed for what Mayor Oscar Rodriguez described as essential works to be added.
But during the forum with affected stakeholders, Housing and Settlement Section chief Louie Clemente and Engineer Efren De Leon disclosed that the affected residents agreed to the City Government’s proposal for them to be relocated at Northville 14.
“A lot of them are actually informal settlers holding no legal titles to lands where their houses are. They agreed to be relocated since the city has a compensation package for them just like the others,” the officials said.
Rodriguez said the local government is looking for a relocation site. “We are looking at a relocation site and I have discussed this with a developer. They will add units at Northville 14 at kung mabilisan talaga ang galaw, iyung nakalaan doon sa mga dapat lumipat na ayaw pang lumipat ay ipapagamit iyun sa kanila, but definitely papalitan.”
As with the Sagip Ilog initial phase, Rodriguez disclosed that there are a few more works to be done. President Benigno Aquino III is expected to lead the Sagip Ilog launching.
“May kakulangan pa at iyung availability ng mga dapat naming imbitahan. So ire-reset namin iyan at wala pang eksaktong date,” he said.
